No AI. Hand-crafted math.
FinPal does not use artificial intelligence. Here is what that means, and why it matters for your money.
Every calculation, recommendation, and roadmap FinPal produces comes from hand-crafted algorithms built on 8+ years of finance expertise. No AI model is involved at any point. None processes your data. None influences your plan.
What you get is mathematics. Precise, deterministic, auditable mathematics.
Why FinPal was built, and what it stands for. What "No AI" means at FinPal
FinPal does not use AI, completely and without exception. Not to generate financial advice, not to summarize your data, not to write recommendations, surface insights, or rank your debts. Your data is never run through a third-party AI service at any step.
The calculations that drive your repayment plan, your Precision Engine results, your strategy comparisons, and your milestone projections are all produced by deterministic algorithms. Given the same inputs, they always produce the same outputs. No randomness, no probabilistic generation, no model that could hallucinate a number that costs you money.
Why this is a deliberate choice
AI has a well-documented problem in high-stakes domains. Three of them, really, and each one is a reason it does not belong anywhere near your payoff plan.
It confabulates
A language model does not know what it does not know. It produces a confident, fluent, grammatically perfect answer that is simply wrong. A nuisance when you are chatting; dangerous when it is your payoff date.
It is inconsistent
Ask the same question twice and you can get two different answers. For a decision you live with for years, you want a number you can come back to and recompute, not one that shifts with how or when you asked.
It agrees with you
Push back, or phrase the question toward the answer you were hoping for, and it often folds and tells you what you want to hear, even when it was right the first time. A tool that can be talked out of the truth should not decide how you pay down debt.
None of this means AI is without value. It is genuinely good at many things, and I use it as a tool where it earns its place. But building FinPal showed me its limits up close: even with careful, detailed instructions, it would quietly drop a figure here, add something that did not belong there, or get a calculation subtly wrong. Impressive, but not something to hand the rest of your financial life without checking every number.
A plan that is off by even a small percentage compounds into real money over years. So I built FinPal to be the opposite: every output is the result of a formula. Formulas do not guess, they do not change their mind, and they cannot be argued into the wrong answer.
Max, Founder of FinPalWhat powers FinPal instead
FinPal does not run on one clever trick. It runs on a suite of proprietary engines, each hand-crafted on 8+ years of professional finance expertise across banking and portfolio management, each deterministic, all reading from a single, honest picture of your money.
The Precision Engine
Real calendar-based math: the exact days between your statements, the months an extra payment cycle lands, daily interest accrual, and the real charges added each month. Not averages, not approximations.
The optimization engine
Institutional-grade math that finds the path through your debt built around your specific goal and how your loans and cards actually behave, weighing interest rate, payment timing, and credit impact together.
The debt-health engine
Reads your debt the way a lender does: your debt-to-income ratio, your blended interest rate, and the loans where refinancing would genuinely save you money.
The Lender's Eye View
Scores your whole picture against the readiness threshold for your goal, with mortgage qualification on live rates refreshed daily from the Federal Reserve (FRED) and the Bank of Canada. Every number is auditable.
The Pulse Score
Synthesizes every dimension, your saving rate, debt service, blended interest, and more, into one 0 to 100 read anchored against five years of public data, then surfaces your single highest-leverage move.
The budget engine (MyBudget)
Tracks your real cash flow, groups what things actually cost, handles the months an expense hits five times, and feeds your real available income straight into your debt plan.
Every one of these engines is deterministic: the same inputs produce the same output, every time, and the math is shown. They read from one picture of your finances, so the numbers always agree with each other. This is the kind of calculation institutional financial tools run, made accessible to you.
These engines are converging. A goal-aware layer, already designed and just as deterministic, reads them all together and builds one plan aimed at the life you are working toward. Buying a home? It targets your revolving credit-card balances first to lift your credit score before you apply. Working toward financial independence? It weighs paying down debt against the real growth your invested dollars could earn, using the long-run market-return data published by Professor Aswath Damodaran of New York University. Like everything else in FinPal, it will guess at nothing: every move it recommends will show its math.
What this means for your data
Your financial data never touches an AI model. It is processed entirely by our own engines, on our own infrastructure. No third-party model receives your debts, your income, your spending patterns, or anything else you put into FinPal.
This matters because of how AI-powered tools usually work: to generate a response, they send your data to a third-party model. That data leaves the service, passes through infrastructure controlled by another company, and may be used to train future models, by a path that is often hard to see. FinPal closes that question entirely. Your data stays with us, processed by math we wrote. It is not just a privacy position, it is a trust position.
If FinPal ever introduces any AI-powered feature in the future, I will tell you clearly and specifically, explain what data it touches, and make it opt-in. I will never silently route your financial data through an AI model.
A note on marketing language
The phrase "AI-powered" has become a marketing shorthand that can mean almost anything, which means it tells you very little about what a product actually does. I have chosen not to lean on it. I would rather show you exactly what runs under the hood: a suite of deterministic engines that run real-calendar simulations, optimize at an institutional level of precision, and adapt to your actual financial behavior rather than a guess at what it might be. Real math, built by hand, and shown to you in full. That is what I want FinPal to be known for.
